- Gordak Orcskull, axe-wielding dwarf.
- Daeran, human acolyte of the Shining Lord.
- Bardobis, halfling scoundrel and thief.
- Esme Moonfire, elf enchantress.
The most unlikely of companions climb the treacherous mountainside in search of the titan Breysus. Daeran's vision sent by the Sun Father has led them here, but not even the servant of Pelor knows the reason behind this mission. He knows only that they must seek out Breysus concerning a matter of great importance. Perhaps the terrible earthquake of a few days ago is related in some way to this task. In any case, Daeran and his friends Gordak and Esme have traveled far to learn what evil may be afoot. The loudmouthed cutpurse, Bardobis, has decided to follow them despite the objections. Daeran believes that somehow even the untrustworthy halfling has a role to play in this unfolding mystery.
Soon the climb levels off and a yawning cave mouth is seen in the distance. Sprawled out before the opening is a humanoid the size of a galleon. Closer examination reveals that death has taken this immense creature. He is dressed in a huge shirt of glittering mail and a great halberd lies nearby. There are no signs of battle, however, and though the giant shows some early effects of decomposition, there is no odor of decay. Large scraps of parchment blow across the mountain. Daeran examines one of them and notices that it contains a manuscript written in the Celestial tongue.
"I cannot make much of what is written here, but I believe this is Breysus," the priest says while motioning towards the gigantic corpse. "Perhaps he was guarding something of particular significance here. But what? And how did he perish?"
The companions did not have many answers, but everyone agreed that they should explore the cave to learn if any answers can be found there...
